Clare White-Cooper - Made By Coopers Apothecary

Clare White-Cooper is a Mother of two and co-founder of Made By Coopers, a flourishing apothecary producing natural and organic products for your skin and soul. We discover how an Ayurvedic Retreat in India inspired the creation of Made By Coopers, what wellbeing practices have eased Clare’s anxiety disorders over the years and their brand philosophy.

Can you share your story of how Made By Coopers came to be?

Made By Coopers began as a ‘light-bulb moment’ whilst we were travelling around India on a three-month yoga expedition.

After taking up yoga and meditation in London in my late twenties, to improve my mental health, I wanted to further my healing journey which led us to India. So going to India was really a chance to delve deeper into the world of healing and ease the anxiety and sleep problems we both had been experiencing. During our travels, myself and my partner Darren spent some time at an Ayurvedic retreat. It was there we learnt all about the power of plants and natural healing. It was here we got to see first-hand how plants and herbs transformed into oils used for treatments, inspiring the products crafted for Made By Coopers.

When we started our business, we first started blending essential oils to create our core blends which then became candles and natural room mists. Our goal was to create products to cover every aspect of mental and emotional wellbeing. We now have products which give you more energy and focus, uplift low moods, ease anxiety, balance emotions and aid natural sleep. We now have a full range of wellness and skincare products and plans to create many more!

What is your brand philosophy?

Our philosophy is to make natural and organic products to nourish your skin and soul, with an emphasis on emotional and mental wellbeing. Our products work with and enhance the practice of yoga and meditation and all self-care rituals for boosting wellbeing. Crafted from nutrient-rich plant oils, therapeutic grade essential oils, flower hydrolats and botanical ingredients, our vegan and natural products help restore the mind and body to perfect harmony.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by different eastern philosophies and practices and love to travel!

There are elements of Ayurveda, Hinduism and Buddhism that I weave into my everyday life, whether it be an ingredient we use for MBC, a yoga and mediation practice or a quote that pops up in my mind that really helps me think differently in difficult times or just to inspire me.

What is your all time favourite Made By Coopers product?

Our Superfood firming serum in our skin care range is one I'm particularly proud of. It regenerates cells, is packed full of vitamins and instantly firms, leaving skin with an amazing glow! Also our new Zen room & pillow mist in our aromatherapy range is my favourite scent I have created! It was created at the start of lockdown and we have just released it on the site and it contains oils which are new to our whole range such as vetiver and sandalwood.

How do you spend the rest of your time?

I now live on the Sussex coast not far from Brighton and have two children aged 3 and 5, so if I have any free time, we are down the beach or in a forest somewhere! I also love baking and the times at home when I'm not working, I'm usually with both kids making some sort of cakes or treats.

What wellbeing practice has been the most helpful to you?

Meditation and breathwork have been key for me healing from the anxiety disorder I had in my twenties. I first started meditating 8 years ago and burning frankincense (which led to my interest in aromatherapy) and for the first time in years I had 'space' in my mind and could really work through the crazy thoughts I was having and put some distance between myself and the thoughts. It was life changing for me and something I will never let slip! I always make sure I meditate at least once a day as that is my maintenance for good mental health and wellbeing.

Breathwork has also been a big part of my healing journey. Ive spent some time in Thailand at yoga retreats in the past and took part in shamanic transformational breathwork sessions where you breathe through an open mouth to over oxygenate your brain, go into a trance-like state for 2 hours and then burst into tears! It sounds strange but it actually was a mega release and I felt so much lighter afterwards.
